I have an unbootable computer, so I downloaded Hirens Boot CD, When I put in boot CD I get this error when trying to access Mini Windows:

The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive \Device\Harddrive\DR0 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed.

I really need to fix my computer, can anyone help me with this error. Anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi

Hirens has a range of hard disk diagnostics you can try to test hard drive for physical damage

The Bios should tell you what brand of hard disk you have

look for manufacturers bootable diagnostics (seagate, WD, IBM/Hitachi, Samsung)
Seagate will run its tests on other brands but should only be used to repair Seagate (or Maxtor) hard disks

until you know if there is physical damage to disk or corruption of partition or Windows registry you will not know the best options

Hi

What do you mean by a unbootable PC ?
is it a hardware problem with hard disk ?
or corrupt windows (which hangs)?

presumably PC boots up but can not load windows from hard drive

(describe what you see and hear when you switch on PC)

Have you reset cmos which can help if problem is corrupt cmos settings

Do you have any usb storeage devices attached ?(remove them)
or a floppy drive which needs an empty floppy disk inserted

Thanks for your answer.

If my computer is stuffed then I need to try to recover the data - but not sure how.

When I turn on the PC it has two choices Launch startup repair and start windows normally. Both options it just hangs. When I press F8 and go into safemode (any options) it takes me into "Launch repair" then it goes to a blue screen with a mouse and hangs. When I go into debugging mode it brings up the error "unmountable_boot_volume" the "last known good configuration" also sends me to "starting windows" and hangs.

I have therefore downloaded hiren bootable on USB as a last attempt and tried to launch mini windows XP to save all the data - with the above error.
I can get into the DOS via hiren.

I just want to try to save the data to be honest but not sure what to do or ideally run something to fix the hard drive.
