Hi, I have a Hiren's 15.2 Boot DVD for XP and the boot menu screen comes up, but Mini XP will not load(it does try, but then it reboots and I'm back at the Hiren's screen again). Why do I even need this disk in the first place? I'm sure there're viruses/malware on the system and the ntfs.sys and I believe the hal.dll file are corrupt or missing. I don't have an original XP CD; A Rec Disk; or an internet connection; but I was hoping to--at the very least--be able to run Mini XP; use some of the tools they offered; and be able to connect it to a recently bought PC[a good PC, but no antivirus installed--XP Pro was freshly installed]as a slave drive for extra space. At most, I was hoping to use Hiren's 15.2 to resolve my issue and use(new--used upgrade from the old one--and old PC) both in a peer-to-peer network. But...either hinges on Mini XP loaded up--which I cannot get it to do by clicking on Hiren's Boot Mini Xp menu option. It looks like it is going to, but it reboots. I thought of something else while I was making this post; would it be possible or wise to see if Mini Xp will run on the working PC and--if it does--connect the bad--likely infected--drive as slave and use Hiren's "guns" and "solutions" on the old drive? Please help and thanks so much for your very valuable time.

Hi and thanks a lot for your help, but that's a great solution for someone who does have an internet connection[which I do not have] or there was another useable computer--that I know of--for miles(live in countrified area of Ms). Really, that's a great option and I wish it was open to me--but it isn't.

Sorry for missing the "no internet" part. Just a question. Do you try to use a mouse when the Hisens menu comes up? It will only work with the arrows and enter and NOT with the mouse. I ask this because you said "by clicking on Hiren's Boot Mini Xp menu option". Not sure you will fix the problem with the CD anyway, unless one of the virusscanners will remove a virus/malware. Hirens has no System Restore on it (at least not my 14.1 version).
With my CD only Avira from the list of virus tools worked from the HBCD menu. You could try to disconnect the hard disk from your newer computer and put the problem disk in it and then start the Hirens CD and scan/fix it.

He was prolly using a dumb phone...

If I weren't a few months late, I'd say AJ suggested his own best solution and should go with that.

Or possibly tether to the phone. But I'm sure if that were an option, it wouldn't have been overlooked.
