oh, 1 more thing.
i want to AT LEAST be able to MAX out cod4 + play Crysis on Very High, no AA, at 1280x768. (1280x768 for Cod4 too).

The 4870 beats the 9800GTX any day of the week, but is more expensive. The GTX 260 will roughly match the 4870, losing to it slightly in most things, but beating it slightly in crysis, so it is a good one to look at. Depending on the budget as well, the 4850 might be a good card to look at - it is about the same performance as the 9800GTX, but tends to be a bit cheaper.

Oh, and all of those cards should max out crysis and cod4 at 1280x768 with no AA. The 4800 series tend to do better with AA than the nvidia cards though.

Either card should max out most games at 1280x768 (983 thousand pixels). I have an overclocked 9800gtx (w/a 3.33ghz Core 2 quad) and can play most games maxed or close to maxed at 1680x1050 (1.76 million pixels).
