Hi,

I got following message in a game:

(-90440)<<< Sub Space Message >>>
FROM: s-013
At:XXXXXXXXX
Colonists are dieing being
from being overworked.
The colonist tax rate may be
excessive.
543600 colonists have died.
Max safe tax rate: 75%

Of course there were several hissers, but I didnt know this message. This
message scared me, but no colonists died ...

Also, is there a limitation on the number of hissers I can use? (limited to
4?)
I seem to get weird results in test games...

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jose

BTW, couldnt find anything on Donovan's site

That's strange. There definetly is no limit as low as only 4 ships
hissing. It has to be some other parameter at least as well.

You can set - at least in phost - the maximum number of hissers. I
don't properly recall thost, but at least you can set the effect of
hissing...

> BTW, couldnt find anything on Donovan's site

It tells, that you can set the effect of hissing. As it does not
mention a number of maximum ships - well, I hope someone will know
more.

default values are:

THost/ hconfig:
HissEffectRate = 5

PHost/ pconfig
### Hiss
AllowHiss = Yes
HissEffectRate = 5
MaxShipsHissing = 10

Ingo

Add-on message?
(Hint: for hide the planet nr., you need 3 more X ;)

Not for THost.

The message is harmless. When you're hissing, HOST limits taxes to 75%.
If you exceed that, colonists die (I haven't simmed it, but it looks
like (170-Tax_Rate)% dieing; and the amount in the message is the number
of survivors, not deaths.)

As far as I know, HOST has no limit here, but PHost has it configurable
(MaxShipsHissing). Probably that are just two approaches to solve the
same problem, namely to avoid excess use of Hiss. PHost applies a hard
limit on the number of ships if requested; HOST makes it unattractive to
use high taxes and many hissers.

Another limit you may have heard of is that the Borg cannot tax natives
more than 20% in HOST.

Uh, just assumed it so far, but is there no such limit in phost?

No. I just took a look in the docs, but didn't find it mentioned. I
also didn't see this mentioned in the section on differences between
host and Phost though. I don't remember having had problems with high
tax rates in my days as Phost Borg, so let 'm bleed. ;-)

Ah, thanks for this clarification. However, compared to previous turn still
no clans died :)
Now, I'm not angry for that :p

I seem to recall that this message is ancient one from host 2.x, and
I'm fairly sure no clans die or taxes are reduced.

There are other areas of the host program that are from old coding
that no longer applies. For example, if you tax lizards at 75% or
more, you get one of a variety of messages saying they are running for
the hills and are dying at a very high percentage. However, that
hasn't been true since about 2.something and no one dies. There are
many other examples like this.
"
So, the message is bogus.
