I recently purchased a Hitach CML 174 17" flat panel monitor. The monitor is great and everything, except with dark images. Dark images are generally too dark! For instance, watching a scene from a movie in a dark place is horrible because everything is too dark. I believe Tom made a note about this in his review of the monitor. I was wondeirng if there is any way to screw around with the color settings and color profiles to minimize this annoying effect. (I.E. is there any program that i can download to optimize my monitor settings??)

Right now, I have a dvi connection to my computer, and the brightness is cranked all the way up. My geforce 4 color settings for the monitor are all factory seettings.

Thanks!

You should have to adjustments one for desktop and one for your things like games and DVD's etc.. I haven't had a Nvidia card in a while but i think it might be called overlay controls r something like that? Not sure but i know i had a similar problem and was able to turn up the brightness and gamma that affected only my movie and not the desktop.

The only thing that i truly know...

is that i know nothing at all.

hello fissys,
I have the same panel and I have'nt sorted this issue yet... it's a great monitor for working, but it's awful for viewing images or watching movies (never seen more than 5 minutes of a movie with it, because it's too dark).... tried to play with gamma and driver settings, but did'nt make much difference...
any tip would be welcome =)

Hey! Thanks a lot for the tip! This helps out enormously!!! For those with an nVidia card, get the latest detonator drivers off of www.nvidia.com, go to display in control panels, click the settings tab, click advanced, click the geforce tab, and select overlay controls on the menu that slides out to the left of the diag box. Thanks again!

thanks for the info!
I've just tried it and it works much better now... i need to play with those settings some more until it seems a little 'real'.

cheers!
