Hitachi diagnotic/repair software for Hitachi

I just built a new HTPC with
-ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX
-AMD 6000+

The primary drive is 400GB Hitachi SATA and it has a version of XP from a different PC, so when I boot up I get the blue screen which is to be expected. I'd like to format the drive so that I can install a new OS. Normally I'd just use the manufacturers set up CD but apparently Hitachi no longer offers their disk utility tool on the web.
Is there a generic tool can I use to format the drive so that I can install the new OS, or is there a better method? I tried FDISK from the Asus DVD but had problems - maybe because it's SATA drive.

Set the PC to boot from cd first and when it gets to where you choose the HDD format it right there.

The Windows CD will partition and format the drive for you.
Else, you could use Ultimate Boot CD.

The version of XP that I have won't give me the option to format the drive since there is an existing installation - at least that's what I think.
I'll try the ultimatebootcd.
