Hitachi HD not recognized

My Hitachi HD is not recognized on my computer and it has a very soft beeping sound coming from it, but if I plug it into the lap top and my tv it works just fine, I do have a lot of stuff on it, other than transferring all that I have onto another drive, is there any way I can get it to work on my computer.
I am running windows 8, if that helps.
