HL 1 = HL 2 ?

I started replaying HL 1 after several years and I was surprised by the
similitude in setup of many episodes. Several scenes from HL1 are present
in HL2 (in a somewhat altered form) But I was surprised by the amount of
similarity between both games.

On the other hand the graphics make you appreciate HL2 all the better. Also
HL1 was much more "platformy" in that you had to do a lot of crawling,
climbing and ducking over very difficult bits to get ahead. Aside from the
HL2 bridge that is.

I have to say that this is the reason I stopped playing HL1....I got
disheartened whenever I got to the next "negotiate these narrow platforms"
sections....

I'm not keen either.
The equivalent dull (but not that hard) bit in HL2 is picking up pallets and
boxes to cross the radioactive puddles - once is OK but when you have to
keep repeating the manouvre it is a drag.

Why did you have to do that? Or are you talking about getting across
the beach without annoying the antlions?

No there is a bit before in an enclosed area with radioactive sludge around
with cars and pallets and stuff....I guess you "don't have to" do it...but
otherwise you would be losing ur health while walking thru the sludge....I
got bored and did a bit of both....

I enjoyed the climbing bits to be honest. Maybe that's why I loved Tomb
Raider and Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time.

Oh yeah, forgot about that part. Then there's the electrified water.

Yaknow, they give ya an *airboat* to use in place of palettes there?

Oh that bit is way later, in the tunnel.

With TR1 and 2 especially, there was a lot of climbing :) Hey, I just
had to see what's up there!

Me too. Serious Sam and Doom were a bit too much mindless blasting for
me. HL1 and 2 varied the pace a lot more, which appealed to me. I also
enjoyed Deus Ex, Tomb raider and Project IGI. Horses for courses.

No this is not the airboat section.
Apparently everyone forgot it because it is so dull.

Strange. Deus Ex and Project IGI both screamed out as games that I would
have normally enjoyed but didn't.

I found the control and camera clumsy for IGI and Deus Ex was a role
playing shootemup at a time where I expected every bullet to shatter the
cranial lobe like a watermelon at 400 paces without fail.

I recall that now, not dull at all. Just very very short.
