Question HMDI by internet, (GPU not showing 4K resolution).

I've my PC in another room, with my living room TV connected to it via a HMDI extender/splitter.

All TVs are 4K... but I cannot get my GPU to switch to 4K... It's stuck on 1080 resolution... I've been in AMD's software but it's saying the monitor doesn't support it... (it's 4K 144hz).

Anyone help me to get my GPU to do 4K.

The specs on the splitter box says 4k @60hz. Maybe thats causing an issue with your 144hz monitor ??

I was thinking that... but should I not be able to change the settings in Windows? ie... Change the resolution to 4k... At the moment all I can do is set it to a maximum of 1080 at 60hz.

When I try and change the GPU settings it says the monitor won't do 4k... but it does??

Try plugging the monitor directly into the pc and try setting it to 4k. It should work. If it does then its a splitter/pc combined problem.

Yeah, it worked... so it's looking like a "splitter/pc combined problem"... What can be done about that?

Well thats good, its narrowed it down. Not familiar with the splitter but may be that the box need to support the higher resolution ?

In the splitter image you posted it says 60hz. Does it have other hz setting in the drop down box?

yes Windows display settings is giving me 59,94hz... and lower resolutions.

So basically 60hz or lower. I would say the splitter is your bottleneck. Are there splitter boxes out there that offer 4k at higher hz level ?

I would say so that there boxes that offer more... but can the TV not be turned down to 60hz and up to 4k? Should that not be a possibility in Windows, AMD software.

I understand it staying at 60hz... but why block the resolution at 1080?
