Hey!

I would like to know what I should do with my Home Desktop that my parents mostly use for browsing or some games (card games nothing to heavy).

In the near future I'll definitely buy an SSD and 8GB of RAM just to give that extra humpf when they're browsing or watching some videos on Facebook or Youtube.

Now, here's the thing, I don't know if I should also upgrade the CPU or buy a new MoBo with cheap CPU and upgrading it along the time.
The things is, I have my laptop and they have that PC, however, if I could build it as decent PC then I would play my games on it.

Currently the system is built with an FM2+ MoBo and an AMD A6 5400K and no GPU, this socket is very old to computer standards and since I don't know much about AMD performance, would an A10 still be worth the upgrade?

I know for sure that for what they do it will do but my idea is: if there's something in the market for the same price and/or performance that later allow me to upgrade for like a Ryzen it would be cool, as future upgrade guarantee

TL: DR - Upgrade to A10 CPU (FM2+ socket) or buy MoBo + AMD CPU?

System:
Windows 10 Pro x64
Asrock FM2A55M-HD+
AMD A6-5400K 3.6GHz
4GB RAM DDR 3 @ 668HZ (or something)
Western Digital Green 500GB HDD

cheap upgrade 2nd hand 4gb ddr3 to up total ram to 8gb and a dedicated cheap 2nd hand videocard maybe like a gtx 750 ti or gtx 1030 if you can get one, but if you want more future proof i'd get a ryzen apu and am4 mobo , enough for browsing and watching videos, ( youll need new ddr4 ram) but that will maybe less than less than $500 new perhaps not sure though.

it depends on your budget.
for browsing only, I guess you can get away with SSD and a bit more RAM.
I was facing same question couple of years back, ended up buying them an i3 NUC. Never heard a complaint after that :)

A new motherboard and a cheap CPU would also require new (DDR4) RAM. Additionally, Ryzen does not support on-board graphics so you'd also need a new graphics card.

Personally, I don't think an A10 APU is going to give you the performance boost that the SSD and RAM upgrades would. If it were me, I'd probably start with a RAM upgrade. See how that improves performance and then decide on what to add next; either an SSD or a low-end graphics card like the AMD RX-550.

I always forget about those new DDR4...

Yea, I think I'll stick with SSD and RAM.

Tell me, I checked with Speccy and it says "4GB RAM DDR3 @ 665MHZ" , is this just 1333Mhz? If yes, instead I'll just buy another stick with 4GB instead of the whole 8GB

A ssd will transform the performance of that pc.
Buy a Samsung evo of sufficient capacity to hold the contents of the C drive.
Use the Samsung ssd migration aid to move Windows C drive to the ssd.

4gb of ram is a bit small.
Unfortunately, simply adding another 4gb stick is not guaranteed to work.
Ram must be matched.
If a second stick does not work, what is your plan "B"??

To avoid problems, buy a 2 x 4gb kit for the upgrade.
Access a ram vendor ram selection app and enter your motherboard. You will get a list of supported kits.
keep the old 4gb stick as a spare or sell it.

If does not work I'll swap that stick with an 8GB or that kit you're suggesting
