I have been a big fan of Tom's Hardware for a long time, but it has been at least 4 years since I have built my last computer and I'm sure you can give me more insight on what parts I am looking for.

The situation is this. I have roomate moving out soon and he is the owner of most of the entertainment equipment. I currently have a laptop that is very taxed with any video editing work as well as fairly weak when trying to run anything higher than 720p.

I would like a system that I could use for almost all of the activities I would like to do at home such as watch movies, edit videos (never longer than 15 minutes at 1080p60), and sometimes play games.

I will need to also buy a TV or large screen monitor and wireless keyboard to make this work, so I am hoping there is somewhere for that in a budget of 1500-2000
usd.

Summary
Needs

  • Video Editing (1080p60 ~15minutes and 16MP timelapse)
    Movies (1080p)
    Large Screen/TV
    Wireless Keyboard

Wants

  • games
    multitasking (CAD and video streaming)

Budget
1500-2000

Are you wanting to build this yourself or find a prebuilt system?

Regardless, get a i5 minimum for the CPU but CAD and Video editing can benefit from an i7.

For video games nvidia 960 or up is where to start. I'm not an AMD guy but I'm sure someone will shout out the equivalent. For your budget though you can probably swing a 980 though.

At least 8gb of RAM, again in your range you can probably do 16gb or 32gb.

Get an SSD for at least the OS. 256gb is starting size to look at. After that just get a traditional HDD for storing all your files and such.
