Hello,
i bought an old laptop that has a hitachi 15.10gb hardrive that is i guess 2.5 but is considered 1.8? it came out of a dell latitude, the model of the HDD is htc424015f7at00, i looked it up and it says its a IDE? but i guess most newer laptops are SATA? my laptop is a toshiba satellite and is much newer, can i use the old hitachi as a ext. hdd to save stuff on? )mostly movies cause i do vid editing. i want to get one of those lil cases but unsure which to get....

so take on out of a laptop that runs SATA?

2.5" Laptop drives are slower, often 5400rpm, not 7200rpm. They are selected for efficiency, not performance.

Also, video takes up lots of space. You should be looking at much more than 15gb to be useful. I might suggest 500gb as a minimum.

Hard drive prices are crazy, but you might find a suitable external unit which includes the drive.
