Do you have any ideas of making an optical hard drive silent ? You know, the vibrations and the grinding sound when doing some load on it. I saw a method with a sponge but it's taking too much space in the case to do it. Other methods to get rid of the hard-drive noise without buying silencers ?

I have 2 off those http://www.planetgeek.ch/2009/04/25/reducing-the-noise-of-my-hard-drive/ they are very efficient. People are making home made versions off them by ptting rubber bands i the 5.25" bays like this http://www.slashgear.com/if-silence-is-golden-this-little-hack-is-priceless-quiet-your-hdds-1111154/

it looks good ( the second link ), but won't they move forward and backward ? i mean if you move out of your houes with your computer, you may do a carnage inside the case with that lock-up system xD

They are not soft rubbers, it should be quite taunt.

I would though drill my own holes, use some grommet, and not use the screw holes as they can bite into the rubber after a while.

This is gonna be tricky with an optical however, are you gonna leave a big hole up front?

Well, i did mine by taking 2 long pieces of anything that's not a textile material, cuz it would rip in time - the best would be some unused wires, something that has metal at it's base and covered in rubber or anything that won't make metal-to-metal contact. My hard-disk has screw holes as well on the front side, so i twisted at half the screws, twisted again few times the wire mentioned above around the screw and twisted ( damn, i can't find a synonym for this ) them as tight as i could, so the rubber wire won't come off.

I did it on all the four screws and ended up with 2 wires coming horizontaly on the hard disk, each having at least 10cm of free wire to tie them up with the case ( i decided to place it in the disc drive area, where i would still have some free space between the hard disk and the sides of the case. And then simply make the hardest knot you can and the hdd will float in air like never before. I guarantee this procedure will make disappear the grinding sound at least 80%, especially on heavy load 😉
