hello, i am putting together home network, using my 5 static ips,and i dont know where everything needs to be for it to work, i will tell what i like to do and ask is it possible? if it is ,how is best way to setup network. first i have static block 5 ips from comcast, my comcast modem is a smcD3G. ok what i like to do , 1 static for my home network (consists of 3 pcs, 1 printer and 1 storage drive for backups), 1 static for the xbox, 1 static for minecraft server (on a dedicated pc with 2 nic cards) 1 static for my web site (hosted on same pc as minecraft server) and 1 static for my own cloud . so i have couple routers, a netgear 8 port switch. i tried to add diagram, but dont know how. so how do i do this? switches?, routers? i know i need to put smc in bridge mode, from there i am lost, any advice is appreciated, thankyou

Lemme rewrite this

You need to determine the subnet mask based on the IP Addresses assigned to you. You can probably google this. Also you need to know the ISP's DNS servers obviously. And you will need to know the gateway address(which may be the modem?, not sure)

You can essentially just setup a switch and connect everything with a static address up willy nilly and set the static IP's to each machine. Or you can use a router, and if possible set the WAN port to a LAN port, Disable DHCP, and connect everything together, however, it needs an IP address even though it won't be doing much with it I believe.

For the router that will have things behind them without static IP addresses, the WAN side of the router needs the static address...

For the router that will have things behind them without static IP addresses, the WAN side of the router needs the static address and DNS/subnet etc, and then it is typical setup behind the router so DHCP on the router and just have everything behind it dynamic if you want.

So, Static IP for WAN side of Router with home network attached on the LAN side all with local IP's
Static IP for xbox
Static IP for Minecraft Server
Static IP Address for Web Server.
Static IP for router for cloud services, and everything behind it gets local IP's

These static ip devices all connect to an unmanaged switch which connects to the modem. No IP address for the Modem. Depending on traffic probably no requirement to use a managed switch/router.

Solution
OK so you bought 5 static IPs because you want those 5 boxes to be Internet Accessible, is that correct? and you are aware those boxes maybe exposed to the Internet and have no firewall in between?

I ask this because a more standard setup would be 1 WAN static, and the router would NAT that 1 WAN static to your 5 LAN boxes based upon the service ports they would be using.

thanks, this is excatly how i got it to work, modem - unmanaged switch switch to servers switch to wireless router and i have separate networks now and all works well
