Question Home office student 2007

Some of you may be shocked to see that I still use this software I keep getting told I am putting myself at risk from hackers.

Note :- I only use word in the package and I never open any word attachments that come from somebody else.

Without giving me information that could be useful to a hacker can somebody explain how I could be putting myself at risk.

Depending on your answers I may try Libre office

The problem occurs if the document contains macros and your system is configured to allow or run macros.

Short link with more explanation:

https://www.komando.com/happening-n...ord-and-excel-files-are-making-a-comeback/all

You can easily search for similar links and additional information regarding macros.

If you continue being careful about downloading and/or opening word documents you should be okay.

Disabling macros:

https://home.sophos.com/en-us/security-center/articles/2019/04/macro-viruses.aspx

in my words settings / macro settings it has a button marker next to disable macros with notification.
Does this mean that if somebody sent me an email with a dodgy macro in it I wont be able to open it.

BTW I am having a look at Libre office

A dodgy macro, or a useful macro....won't run.

Additionally, there are other exploits with older software. Things that are fixed in newer versions never get fixed in the older ones.

If you're very careful, Office2007 is probably fine.
But I'd seriously look at LibreOffice.

Thanks for reply i have been playing around with libre office layout , interface/ribbon it is a lot different to word but for what i do in word i think it will be ok. Looking in settings to find out how to stop a macro been opened if somebody sent me a doc with one in it.
