My home came prewired with ports in each room. The cable going into the house didn't have a terminal piece, so I wired it with the rj45 connector and plugged it into my modem. Prior to wiring it, I checked the configuration in the bedroom and it was set to the t568A configuration, so that's how I wired it. I plugged my computer in to the bedroom wall and it worked great. However, none of the other rooms work. I've used the same cable and they don't work on my computer or my xbox. I pulled the jacks out of 2 of the walls, and they are also in the "A" configuration. Any ideas?

There will be a central panel where you will.have to install a switch. From the sound of it you picked one at random, which happend to be the bedroom. You need to connect.a switch to the router, and connect each individual cable to the switch, OR install a patch panel.

More than likely it's either wired to.an ethernet patch panel already, or it's common to run ethernet as phone lines in newer homes. In which case the are all patched together.and you need to undo that to use.for ethernet. Or it's just not wired at all.

Yes you could just add ends and a switch but it will look half assed when you sell your house.

Ok, I went in the attic and opened the central panel to get a better idea of the wiring. There is a central panel in a closet where the "Line in" is connected. The other end of the "line in" is coming from my wireless router/modem. There are 8 ethernet ports on the central patch panel. Line 1 is going to the master bedroom and is plugged in. The internet works in there. The other lines weren't plugged in and I'm not sure which one goes to which room. However, when I plug them in, NONE of the outlets work, including line 1 in the master bedroom. I'm really confused.

Depends what that box is. It almost sounds like phone wiring.

Best option is to place your router/modem in that closet and hook all the wires to it. If it is a bad location for the router because of wireless or something then you could put a switch in the closet but you then have to figure out how to connect it back to the router.

Thanks, guys. I figured it out. I'm not sure what the box is for. All the cables are cat5e, but the box, I believe is for phone wiring. I just put a router in the panel and hooked the ethernet cables in and everything is good.
