Hey! Just wondering what would be a good CPU to be ran 24/7 on my home server, it'll be running a few game servers along with being able to be accessed from when I am out and about.

Looking for a max of a 250/300W PSU.
An Micro ATX Mobo,
A good CPU that'll be able to handle the servers being ran.
Will be putting in atleast 16GB of Ram. :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, but really I only need a CPU Suggestion and I can sort everything else out,

Thanks a lot, Phil.

Minecraft is heavily single threaded (it cannot multi thread much), so an Intel CPU would be desiable due to the higher single thread performance.

an I3 is a good option as you get the fast single thread performance, but also 4 threads with HT.

what you can do is get a decent cpu, like a 4690k or something, and undervolt that cpu quite a bit and keep the temperatures quite low so there would be no crashing, and it would be a good idea to keep it quite cool, as you wouldnt want it to die...

Why not get an E3 Xeon, like the E3 Xeon 1220 V3, it has a lower TDP than the 4690k and still has 3.1 GHz and it is a quad core, oh and also it runs on LGA 1150

Personally I think both answers are respectable but a bit expensive for what I need it for...

Would a Intel Pentium G3250 do? I know a Dual core would easily run the server and considering my gaming build is good enough for the actual minecraft... :)

I'd try to at least get an i3 4150, preferably an i5 4460 for a bit of future proofing and also since I don't believe that the Pentium will be able to handle the load of a server (even a home one.). If you have budget constraints though, get the Pentium G3258 and a decent cooler and overclock it a bit.
