I'm building my first computer. I have a need for a large amount of storage and so I'm going to build a home server. I have a case and a list of parts, I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on my selections and if you foresee any compatibility or reliability issues. My goals are a home server for vms running Plex, FreeNas, Windows Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2016, My SQL Server, Web Server and whatever else I want to do.

I also have a few questions.

Parts List:

  • Case (already own): NZXT Source 210 Elite Black

    MOBO:ASRock H87WS-DL ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel H87 DDR3 1600/1333

    CPU:Intel Xeon E3-1220V3 Haswell 3.1GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 80W Server...

    RAM:Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered

Now, some of my questions:

1. I tried to get an idea of the power needed on pc part picker, but they don't support server hardware, so I don't really know what I will need.Currently it says 239, but it does not include the motherboard and 2 more sticks of ram I will add in the future.
Here is my part list:PartList
Can anyone recommend a supply?

2. I read a few places that its good to get a motherboard that does not have Audio and anything that you will not use right away, but I may end up needing it. I have the option of getting the: H87WSA, "A" for Audio Is it really worth not having it just incase I need it? What kind of savings are we talking about?

3.Following the last question, The CPU I currently have selected does not have onboard video, But I can switch to this: Xeon 1226 which does support graphics. The downside is that the 1226 does not support Multithreading, the 1220 I currently have selected DOES support it. Is it a good idea to buy the 1220 with multithreading and then buy a video card? Or is multithreading not necessary?

I hope this question is intriguing/interesting enough for you not to flame me. This is my first post here. I have been reading here for years though.

On this scale, I don't think you really need a server board. I don't see any advantage to that board except it doesn't even really support the Xenon

"Xeon processor E3-1200 v3 series processor support is an extended advantage provided by ASRock Rack. It is out of warranty, user's discretion is required."

In the review people talk about how it supports the E3 Series, I was under the impression that meant specifically the 1200 model. I dont really get what they mean "by user's discretion is required".
