Home theater set speakers with aftermarket receiver

Hey! I have a sony home theater system with 5 speakers and a passive subwoofer. I'm satisfied with the sound but the amplifier does not have the connections I'd need to hook up other devices than my tv (only scart). Is it possible to use those speakers with an aftermarket [strike]amplifier[/strike] receiver? Especially the connection of the passive subwoofer bothers me. Thanks in advance!

What you probably want is a receiver.
It includes an amplifier, but also becomes the master hub to which you can attach other input and output components.

Yeah, receiver is just what I meant, thanks. But is it possible to plug those theater set speakers, especially the subwoofer to it?

Home theater receivers don't have a amp for the subwoofer built in so you would have to add an amp for the sub or a new self powered subwoofer.
You might be able to add an input selector to your Sony. An HDMI switcher with built in audio extraction might help.

Ok, thanks. The bad thing is the hdmi on the home theater is only out, and scart is the only input so switch like that won't be working with it. If I'll upgrade the receiver, I'll probably be buying an active woofer then.
