Helping out a friend here, has 2 rooms where the outlets read that they have 120 volts but they will not power anything. We've replaced the sockets and have good connections. Thanks for the help.
Did you confirm with a multimeter that the outlets have voltage present? Make sure the breaker that controls the outlets is on and that they aren't controlled through a lightswitch in the room. The best debugging tool for this is a small lamp or fan.

Fused or tripped? are they even wired up? you got a multimeter to test them?
You sounds like you have no idea what you doing.. call an electrician .. you sound stupid enough to kill yourself if you mess (even if its just 120V)
