Anyone know if its possible (yes, everything is possible), to convert a notebook display for use on a desktop?

I'd like to mount the display on a bent piece of lucite/plexi-glass for use on my desk.

My sis has a 4 yearold compaq notebook that I can have. If I can convert the screen...I plan to use the HD and DVD to make a mini-itx system. Not to mention, you can pic up notebook displays pretty cheap on ebay.

I searched the web and couldn't find any info on this. Does this mean it can' be done? Or atleast be an easy thing to do? Thanks for any info.

I had the same idea and found all most nothing on the web,
but the one thing I learn was that the LCD display from a laptop can't be directly driven by a desktop video card. the singals are differance. There is a way to covert the single but so far all I have heard that is is to expences to bother with. I hope some one can prove me wrong, It would a real cool project.

This has been asked before awhile ago and I think GoSharks went through what was needed in pretty good detail. From what I remember, it wasn't nearly worth the effort and expense.
