Hooking up VOIP phone through wall jacks

Hello,
I recently switched to a wireless modem and router for both my internet and phone capabilities. The router has only one phone jack and I have two sets of cordless phones as well as a fax machine that needs to be hooked up, and a splitter does not work. Is there any way I can make the phone jacks in the wall "live" so I can plug in the extra phones and fax machine into them? Thanks so much for your help?

If the splitter does not work, why would splitting the line through the wall be any different?
