Hi there, 1st post here,

I was just looking at the heat pipes on the new 'MSI P35 Platinum', they made me wonder, is that board designed to cool when set in a desktop, ie horizontally, or, in a tower(vertically), or either?
I cant seem to find any info on the matter, maybe i'm just being dumb here?
It seems to me that if it is supposed to be set at one orientation then it wont be cooling effectively in the other.
Can anyone put my mind to rest, please?

Just to add, I'm under the impression that there is liquid in the pipes which would drip downwards, is that so? Or are the pipes just empty and only move hot air away from the chipsets?

Heatpipes will work in all directions. The liquid will circulate due to capillary and thermodynamic effects. And air would be a pretty bad heat conductor since it's capacity to store energy is almost nill; it would act as an insulator actually. That's why water is the best coolant you will get.
