I recently purchased Battlefield 3 and my computer set the graphic settings in game default all values on high, the game plays great very fast no problems there, only I tend to see some horizontal tearing from time to time does anyone know how to go about diagnosing this problem?

Right on man thank you for the info, I tried it and worked out perfectly, I have an other question tho... will triple buffering and vsync have a negative effect while using crossfire mode? I remember using crossfire mode with triple buffering enabled and having glitch and lagg issues, is this something that should not be enable with crossfire mode? or is there something else effecting the performance?

I haven't noticed any 'glitch and lag' issues with my 2 HD 6850's @ x16, x16. There are differing schools of thought on when and how to use vsync and triple buffering. But if there's tearing, that's the only way I know to get rid of it.

It does lock your framerate at the monitor's refresh rate, usually 60FPS. But I can live with that over tearing.

So when in Crossfire mode, if you go to game settings and try to reset the graphics to default... the game doesn't crash for you? cause it does every time for me. Plus in crossfire mode my CPU jumps like 20% going from 60-70% usage in single card mode, vs 80-100% in crossfire mode... I am using dual 5770's HIS IceQ5 Turbo's. Any suggestions?

No, that's never happened. (Btw, we have similar systems; Phenom II X4 980, Win7x64, 8G DDR3 1333MHZ, 2xHD6850) But I keep my system quite 'clean'. I keep the startup items in System Configurations to a minimum (4), and run CCleaner regularly, http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner. Also, I uninstall the old driver, run Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode, before installing the latest driver. And, yes, I've switched back and forth between settings during game play... if the game allows Alt-Tabbing to the desktop. The only issue I've had to date, has been micro-stutter in one game.
As far as the jump in CPU usage, I would think 20% would be about normal, since the processor has more work to do to keep up with 2 GPUs.
