Alright...this is pretty strange. I have a mobile 2400 and an abit nf7-s mobo...I'm trying to overclock it with not much luck. It's supposed to be 1.8ghz, and I increased the multiplier just 0.5 to make it 1866 mhz. I have a $30 vantec aeroflow heatsink and fan, so I should be able to overclock, right? wrong. I can't get past that. 1866...pathetic. It won't even start at 1933. And you know what?

Right now that's the least of my worries. The computer won't start upright. It will start fine when it's laying on its side. No, I'm not joking. Yes, I checked al the molex connectors and any other power lines, as well as the moving parts. If I slowly tilt the case upright after starting it, it'll shut off at about 10 degrees from vertical. If I turn the power on (but the system wont start yet), and slowly lay the case on it's side, it'll turn on at about 10 degrees from the table. Any suggestions? I'm feeling really helpless right now.

something is grounded on the case. Take EVERYTHING out, and re-install properly.

...actually, could be that the heatsink aint installed right, as when it is mounted horizontally gravity is pushing the HSF onto the CPU just enough to be able to cool it (not not enough to o/c).

When you begin to mount vertically, the HSF looses its contact with the CPU, the CPU overheats, the motherboard turns the PC off.

If it aint that, its the above.

What Ned Said. (The first thing, anyway).

You need to make sure all the standoffs in the case line up with those on the motherboard, and you don't have any 'rogue' ones.

Alternatively you could wedge a doorstop under it, so it's always at ~10 degrees off vertical. ..

The thing that suprises me is that you're trying to overclock something that doesn't even work properly at stock speeds. Strange behaviour. 😱

I'm gonna be reassembling it later tonight...but just for my info...how does grounding affect this...as far as the tilt. Also, what should I try if I reinstall everything, find no problems, and it still does this?

I'm going to guess you have a standoff contacting the back of your board. There's probably a hair's width of space between it and the board when it's laying down, but the shifting weight of components makes it contact as you stand it up.
