Horrible ping most of the time.

My Family got a new router about 2 months ago and since then ping is about 400-700 in games, but sometimes on weekends is 30-50. The routers name is Technicolor TG582n and I'm using wired connection. How can I make sure that this is routers problem?

It might an incorrect MTU setting in your router, or try changing your DNS to a third party server like Google or OpenDNS might help.

On router only devices I suggest bypassing the router and plugging directly into modem to test, but in your case you have a modem/rotuer combo.

schwatzz pretty much covered it on what you can check between dns and mtu settings.

Without "bridiging" the modem to funciton as modem only, pluging another router in will in no way remove the bottleneck.
