Host process for windows tasks using CPU when idle ?

whenever my PC is idle,a process called "host process for windows tasks starts using exactly 27% of my CPU every time and doesn't turn off unless i turn it off myself or i start watching some video or playing games.
Has anyone else had this problem ? What can i do to fix it it is driving me nuts.

Try running process explorer - see below - and see if it shows what task it is associated with and then we can try to fix it

Download Process explorer and run it as admin (it comes from Microsoft so its safe)

the default view is tree structure meaning like your task manager screen, it will show what processes are under local host, but unlike the other one, it shows the CPU usage of each part so you can see what is eating your CPU


This page shows what all the colours and headings mean, link at bottom of it shows how to use it to find problems. You can right click headers and run an av scan from within the program.

I normally use it to find memory errors but it could help you too here

I get this all the time when it's downloading a Windows update. In which case it's using my most my Network usage and ~100MB RAM as well.

i have windows updates set to scan only but i have the bug when the service is unavailable for updates and i still don't know how to fix it,also i would set them to never scan or download but it requires an adminiistrator permission which is absolute bs because i am the only user and administrator of my PC

thank you,i will try it as soon as it pops up again,for some reason it didn't appear yesterday even though i was idle for most of the day

See if this helps updates:

right click start button
choose command prompt (admin)
type SFC /scannow and press enter
once its complete, copy/paste the next command into same window and hit enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC cleans system files, DISM cleans the image files which SFC uses to compare files, so if sfc failed first time, retry it after DISM and restart PC.

if you mean svchost, windows update can cause this issue.

try turning off windows update by using gpedit.msc and service management.

2-
run services.msc find "windows update" right click and change "startup type" to disable. stopping the service is not solutio. you can restart pc. but in cas solve without restarting.

I didnt know this. I always turn off update it is not necessary for home users.

it seemed to be fixed by basically disabling everything tied to updates,but it is back again and i will try your method with process explorer and will be back to you once i see which process it is
