I purchased three 4TB WD My Book external hard drives. When I plugged the device into my host desktop workstation, it said it was installing the drivers. When it finished installing drivers, I went to what is known as "This PC" (on Windows 8.1 & 10) it showed my Acer C: and my DVD RW Drive D: and here is an image of 'proof'. There is no shown drive for my external My Book.
I went to Device Manager to see if the device appeared, which it showed up under 'Disk drives'. I attempted to reinstall the drivers and it stated they were already up to date. See image.
At this point I attempted to contact the manufacturer (See image to see if there was a mistake I may have done by contacting 1 (800) 275-4932 which appears on the previous website however, they are closed on weekends are only available Monday-Friday.
At this point in time, I decided to test it out on a virtual machine. As you may know you can only connect a peripheral device to one machine at a time (one host OR one virtual) so I disconnected the 'My Book' external hard drive from my host workstation and connected it to one of my Windows 7 workstations. (See image.
Immediately after connecting the drive to my virtual machine, it began installing the drivers. When it finished the installations, it gave a pop-up indicating that it was seen and I could even see it in 'My Computer' as indicated here.
As odd as this was, maybe it was an issue with the operating system? Never fear, I replicated the issue in Windows 10 on a virtual machine, being that my host is also running windows 10. The trial revealed that it was visible on my virtual Windows 10 workstation, and even my antivirus picked it up and wanted to scan it. (See image
Any suggestions?
P.S I tried power off/power on
