Question Hot CPU after fan replacement

My CPU fan had become very noisy at high speeds but temps were OK so I had it replaced. Now the CPU temps are high (Coretemp ) and the fan doesn't change speed with load. When I use Speedfan I can double the speed (can hear it) but the temps hardly change. This is an ASUS K20CE. I can understand the loss of cooling but why no fan control?

Did you try digging in your bios? Maybe you will be able to find the Fan Speed there..

Yes! Very few options there. Hardware monitor is just that - fan speed readout with no options to change it as far as I could see.

First of all what fan did you have and what did you replace it with. Does your new fan have a 3 or 4 pin header, if only 3 pin it cannot be controlled by the Mobo. Is it connected on the same header as before?

I haven't got this info yet! The work was done by a hardware specialist. The fan is certainly not the same type as the original. I was assuming that if I could control the fan speed using software the pin config and the connections were OK. Quick and dirty solutions sometimes go wrong!

May you tell me what Motherboard are you using to make sure it indeed has 4 or 3 pin connector, I would be able to show you where to locate it. Just need the name of the mobo.
