How are you measuring the CPU temperature? At 100C, the system should be throttling back significantly (if not shutting down) to prevent damage. Are you sure the temp isn't 100F?

If this is accurate, you do seem to have a possible heatsink/thermal compound issue. First, make sure the heatsink a securely fastened to the CPU.

How hot is your CPU getting while doing nothing?

I'm running an app called core temp. Also a gadget from 8 gadget pack.. Both are saying the same thing.. Processing power is only at 20 percent while downloading.. And yes for the most part it was hitting 100 and sometimes going to 101

It's running at about 56 degrees Celsius while just doing nothing and about 1 to 5 percent processing power at idle with anti-virus and a gadget running in background

It came installed already. It was a used gaming computer I bought off eBay. The guy had great feedback and said he had it sitting a while. All it needed was a hard drive

Yeah dude the heatsink fan is on. Bios is reading 62 degrees Celsius at idle right now.

That is simply too hot. When you remove the heatsink to apply new thermal compound, make sure the plastic film (used to protect heatsink surfaces prior to installation) has actually been removed from the heatsink. Believe it, or not, this often gets missed by users. Leaving that in place will cause just such problems.

I applied thermal compound and resumed the download and now temperatures are maxing out at 45 degrees.. But hovering around 40c. Thanks everyone! Problem solved!
