Hello,

So my laptop recently started having issues and, as it was not worth it to repair, I figured I’d get the data off it through a hot swap bay on my desktop.

I've never actually used it’s top hot-swap bay and was having a bit of an issue trying to get the drive to show. I was hoping someone from here could give some advice on possible solutions. The case is an Antec DF-85 and is compatible with 2.5” SATA drives.

One thing I wasn’t sure of is that the desktop is running Windows 7 but the laptop was running Windows 10. Doubt it’d be an issue but figured I’d throw it out there. Lastly, I’ve only attempted plugging in the laptop drive once the desktop was fully booted up on it’s own drive.

Solution
The hot swap feature must be enabled in BIOS first.

Just connect the drive normally.
  1. Turn off your pc;
  2. Connect drive using sata data and sata power cables;
  3. Turn on pc;
  4. Access data.
