HotU - Chapter 2 - On the way to Big Brain

When I was on the way to fight Big Brain (I had incited a thrall revolt
which left me only with the option to attack the Big Brain in the dialog) I
came to one room with a couple of terminals and a machine of some sort.
When I clicked each terminal I got a message to the effect that I had
fumbled around and activated a ball. Clicking again gave a message to the
effect that I had fumbled around and turned off the ball. I never did
figure out what they were actually for and ended up just bashing the
terminals and moving on. I couldn't seem to touch the machine. Does anyone
know what they were supposed to do?

Sorry that the above isn't clearer. My memory just isn't that great. I do
remember, however, that the room had a name on the map (perhaps something to
do with enhancing or increasing the brain control over the thralls?).

Turn on both secondary machines and then you can destroy the
primary. I don't know what it accomplishes.

The OnDeath() script of this device is really confusing: It triggers some
actions on the creatures in the room, but it is selected ramdomly which one
om these occours. It doesn't make any sense at all - for me it looks like a
loose end.
