Hi there
It is just like I thought would happen.
Hans Wien helped me get past the 4th guardian when no portal showed
after defeating him. I was able to advance to the Knower of Places only
by using the debugmode and Hans' information. I got to the knower and
traved on to the wind swept battlefield. After defeating the 5th
guardian and returning to the catapult the catapult reports that a
battle still rages. Duh. I don't think so. There is no one left to
fight.
I tried what weapons and spells that I thought might help to free the
prisoner but no luck.
So Hans, just like I fore told when I thanked you for your Knower of
Places help, I am still having game trouble. Things will not trigger
when they should.
Do you have any advice for me. Can I make it to the final fight? How
many other hoops must I jump through?
The save folder I have that places me at the start of the knower of
places is 14.7 MB. Would someone be interested in playing out my
character and game save to see if they could finish? I am playing with
vers 1.6280....on a Macintosh. The HotU install that I am playing is
from the LINUX install of HotU. There were no Mac files available for
this expansion when I loaded it up. Maybe that is my problem. Lets not
platform bash, OK.
Any insight into the situation would be very helpful. To start HotU
over again and find out that I still have a bug is not an acceptable
way to proceed. Been there. Done that, and I have the T shirt.

Also I zipped the save file and it goes down to 2.7MB. Anyone
interested in playing a halfelven rogue? I have aribeth and deekin in
tow.

You need to use the amulet to change into (IIRC) earthelemental form and
throw the catapult across the lava into the area where the knower of names
is imprisoned. Once there it can be used to release the knower and you can
proceed.

Yeah thanks. The first time I did this it didn't work either. The
catapult still reports that a battle still rages on.
There are no targets to hit and I can rest anywhere. So I'm pretty sure
that there are no enemies about. Do you know where the battle still
rages?

I really think this is the source of your problems.

Could you clarify exactly what you did here when you moved whatever it
is you moved from Linux to Mac?

Hmm. From what I have seen using the toolset, there is only one (module)
variable which controls the conversation of the catapult. It is set to true
when the last guardian dies. Perhaps the console is your friend again:

dm_setmodulevarint HX_LAST_GUARDIAN_DEAD 1

You may as well check its state before you make changes:

dm_getmodulevarint HX_LAST_GUARDIAN_DEAD

The value is shown in the feedback window.

Thanks again Hans. Indeed the varint was 0. Your instructions were
followed and a course of action was allowed.
I played the windswept battlefield scene over and over and one of the
times I played it out all of the attackers were firendlies. I would
have to manual attack before my henchmen would fight. When the new
fighters spawned in they also came in as friendly. When the 5th
guardiann beamed in he was also friendly. Strange. I had to use the
geinie bottle twice and both times the geinie came into the scene as
agressive. I used your other commands to reset the faction setting for
the geinie and traded all the loot that I collected.
You know, I'm begining to think that my characters' faction setting
is all wrong. It's like my character is being preceived as the bad guy.
The bad guys don't want to fight me and the good guys are trying to
kill me.
When returning back to the Reaper after seeing the Knower of Names I
was attacked by Naritha(SP) and had to kill her. However Valen was
friendly. Do you have any ideas??

The 5th guardian and his minions are parked in a corner unaccessible by the
player, and they are not hostile at this moment. They will first "change
ther mind" at the end of the cutscene. Perhaps this didn't happen in your
case, because the cutscene scripts don't run as they are meant to do.

Not at the moment. Something must have changes her personal reputation
towards you.

Meanwhile i think that your troubles are caused by timing problems. Maybe
some other processes eat too much CPU power, or there is simply a hardware
bug somewhere (e.g. corrupt RAM). If you want to give NWN another try after
this desaster, check your system carefully and do a fresh install of the
game.

Thankyou Hans for your info. It allowed me to complete the game. I am
starting Baulders Gatr now and I may never get back to NWN. Without
your help I'd have never finished the game. Thanks again.

Lestat. I promise not to bite. :-=
