Question How are EXTENSION cables compatible with ANY powersupply; but mix and matching different brands of PSU cables is not?

As per title, how is it that extension cables are designed to be compatible with ANY PSU, but when you mix different brands of PSU cables - for example, corsair vs cooler master - you will fry your pc?

Regardless what PSU brand you buy, the 24-pin power connector is the same, so be the extension cable.

Other cables are made the same way, you can have your own wiring at the PSU side, but the connector ends are standard (SATA, Molex...)

Because the component side of a PSU cable has a standard pinout but the PSU side is typical.

Extension cables are straight through. Pin 1 to Pin 1 and so on, they in effect do nothing but extend and add a little wire resistance.

PSU manufacturers have not agreed to standardize on modular PSU connectors. If you go back even farther it was MUCH worse.
