I've read that the post price cut E6600s don't overclock as well as the older ones. Any such difference with the E4300? I was planning a mild overcloced (3 ghz) system with a E6600 initially, but I figure a E4300 at the same speed shouldn't be much harder and the difference in speed would be insignificant. The rest of my system would be a DS3 rev 3.3 mobo and 2 gigs of buffalo firestix. At aobut 1/2 the price, the $$ from the CPU savings can go to a better graphix card. The computer will be mainly used for gaming and photoshop on a 1680x1050 screen. tks

An e6600 overclocks really well actually. They hit about 3.6Ghz with little effort at a 400MHz fsb. The e4300's ive heard hit the 3ghz pretty easily as well. They are 2 different cores one allendale the other conroe. However I have seen benchmarks that support the fact the 4MB has little advantage over teh 2mb in current apps. If you are looking to cut corners then go with the e4300. The money is better spent on a video card if you are on a limited budget. I'm not so sure about the buffalo memory. I've heard and have had good experiences with G.Skill and they are very cost effective. I'd try to get memory with a CAS of 4 instead of 5 though it will run a bit faster for you.

thanks, I thought the difference was only in the cache size (4v2) the benchmarks I've seen doesn't justify the difference in price. If the current E4300s overclock as well as the old ones, I will be more than satified. Oh yeah, it's gonna be air cooled w/ a Freeze 7 pro.

I just got my E4300 yesterday. The box pack date says 02/13/07. It's Orthos stable at 3GHz, 1.325V, and 55C load with a ACF7P. I'm currently testing it with 1.265V and 51C load. Seems pretty good to me.

Yup, I know mine isnt brand spankin new like the last poster, but its only been a month or so and i'm at 3.0Ghz stable w/ stock voltage. GL

Also a note: The Allendales usually OC better than the Conroes due to the 2 vs 4MB of Cache.

Completely false!! Allendales are binned lower!

Show me an Allendale stable at 3.6+ GHz. There are NUMEROUS Conroe OCs that are 3.6+ but next to none for Allendales. Most top out around 3.3-3.4 with liberal voltage (1.5V+) and air/water cooling.

Good topic, I was actually wondering the same thing. I was thinking of upgrading a friends computer with one, but wasnt sure if it was going to preform as well.....
