Hi guys,I'm about to buy a new monitor.

I have my eyes on Samsung G7B 28inch 4k 144hz.

But i think my GPU won't be good enough to game on 4k setting.

How bad is it to run a 2k setting on a 4k monitor?

Should i buy it or buy a matching monitor instead?

Thank you all very much!!

Depends on how you go about it and with what GPU.

You can send to 2K to a 4K display and have it perform the upscale using whatever method the monitor is set up to do. Sometimes this is pretty good, other times it isn't.

You can keep your native resolution at 4K and have the GPU upscale and still send a pre-upscaled 4K image to the monitor. This is how many techniques like FSR, DLSS, and XeSS work. You render the game at a lower resolution and upscale to improve performance.

You can just try running at 4K with reduced settings.

What do you mean by "bad"? In terms of anything technical or whatever, there's nothing bad. You won't cause any more issues with the monitor than if you used any other resolution.

In terms of image quality, that depends on what scaling mode you use. While the default is to let the display or GPU scale it up, you could also do a 1:1: mode or integer scaling since 2K fits neatly in 4K.
