How beneficial is an Ethernet cable???

PC gaming is my favorite thing to do, and the one thing that has aggravated me the most is,the ping lag I always get. I am not directly connected to my router at the moment, I use a wireless dongle. It is okay, but certain games are completely unplayable because of the ping lag. My friends have told me it is because I am not directly connected to my router. If I do connect my PC with the router via an Ethernet cable, will it reduce my ping lag significantly? Will it at least give me a better connection?

depends on your internet provider/package/connection but yes, using ethernet over wireless can have a dramatic effect on ping and packet loss

Matters how good or bad your wireless connect is. Ethernet is 100mbps connection to the modem. After that, it's about what speed your internet provider is (what speed you are paying for).
The only way to really find out is to use a ethernet cable.
