how big of a psu do you need to run 2 asus strix 970?

new to pc builds and this community.
i have a asrock z97 oc formula mobo
h80 corsair cpu liquid cooler
i7 4790 cpu
2 asus strix 4 gb 970 gpu
evga supernova 1000 p2 psu
when i have both cards connected ps wont boot up says connect pcu connecters to mobo and ive checked all cords and they are all connected. it will turn on and run like normal if only have one gpu running. ive switched the cards to make sure the cards arent the problem. so what im asking is,is my psu to low to run both cards?

The power supply should work. Does single card work in each slot?

not sure have only tried it the top slot.

Try testing without the PCIe device between the two cards,

sucks i cant use that sound card anymore oh well.

Try the bottom PCIe 16 slot (if enough room).
