Hey guys, just a little bit confused whenever people say you can still use a higher clock speed on your ram than the specified cpu max memory speed. For example, I want to buy a 3400g retailed at 2933mhz system memory speed but I read that to run a 3200mhz ram you would have to overclock. Does it mean the cpu will be overclocked by the motherboard to work with a faster ram speed ? Thanks in advance

The CPU won't be overclocked. The specified RAM speed is 2933MHz, meaning that's what the manufacturer recommends. Faster RAM will mean that the CPUs memory controller will have to work harder to keep up with it, but a lot of CPUs can run faster RAM than what the manufacturer specifies. DDR4 3200 is a sweet spot right now for price/performance. You should be safe buying 3200.

Thanks for the response, I will get the 3200. Would you mind telling me what the effects are for the memory controller working harder? i.e. does it make the cpu hotter than normal in general?
