i have a floppy disk drive and it has a ribbon cable and i would like to have it for my computer i am building which uses SATA. i would like to know if there is a adapter i can get or if I can adapt it my self
Doesn't work that way. Motherboards haven't had a floppy controller/connector for quite a few years now, and you can't use any other interface. Get a USB floppy drive.

[strike]What specific motherboard is this?
It may be more than just the 'cable' is needed.[/strike]
And I read that completely backwards.
I thought you had an old motherboard, and wanted to use a SATA drive on it.
Agree with the other comment...just get a USB floppy drive for $15. (If you must actually use a 3.5" floppy)
