How can i check a graphics card will definitely be compatible?

I plan in the next month or so to buy a graphics card to improve my game play on newer games, but as i plan on spending a lot of money on it, i want to be 100% on it working, what do i need to check ?

not a lot as long as you have a PCI-express x16 slot which vertually all motherboards thease days have as standard then you are fine and a decent PSU should be good.
