How can I clean a Macbook charger cable safely? My cable is pretty dirty at the moment

I read that rubbing alcohol damages the protective layer of the cable and makes it dry.
Using other chemicals on the cable also damages the cable in the long term.

Plain water would be the safest chemical. Windex or other glass cleaner probably next safest. Rubbing alcohol.

How long do you expect the cable to last? Should be an easily replaceable object.

I am not sure to be honest another 3 - 4 years maybe, had the cable since 2017 new.
