How can I connect two LIFX smart LED lights to a Residence Hall's Network

I am looking for a solution to be able to connect two of my smart LED light bulbs in my dorm room. I have tried setting them up through the WiFi provided by my Residence Hall, however, they are blocking the ports. Is there any way around this?

If it helps, here is the information for my residence hall's WiFi

Network Security is WPA2 Enterprise,
Data Encryption is AES
EAP Type is PEAP/MS-CHAP-V2.

I tried emailing my IT support center, but they replied saying "Security Operations has provisions against opening up the ports due to vulnerabilities for potential security threats."

I have done some research, and I read that I could use a router. If I were to purchase a router, what steps would have to be taken in order for me to able to set up my light bulbs? I am aware of my school's policy against routers, however, as long as the network isn't accessible to the public, I should be fine.

School says no fancy lightbulbs, that's it
