LG external hard drive 500g, my computer can open it saying not successful, how can I open it without formatting it

If your PC cannot access it you won't be able to format it either. The drive may be faulty so contact LG if it's less than 12 months old as it will still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Contact details for the UK are shown here:
