So I haven't used cd rom burning software in many years. My wife has a bunch of workout dvd's that she would like to save to her computer for easier use. I found a bunch of "Best" cd burning software from a google search but none of them will save the cd's to her computer. They are all very limited and will save only part of the dvd or are just too hard to figure out. Is there a true free cd saving application available these days?

I've used CDBurnerXP for years

the big question is if the dvd's have copy protection on them or not. if they do, then normal copy software won't do it as it will respect the protection and abort.

if they are not copy protected, then a simple copy and paste of every folder on the dvd will put it on the pc. the software would be used more to compress it and save some space. but a straight copy and paste is the easiest if there is no protection on it.

These dvd most likely have a copy protection. I'm just trying to copy workout dvd's to a windows pc so I don't have to use a portable dvd player. It lags often. I do not need to make a new dvd. I used a few freeware products 10 years ago but they don't seem to be available anymore.

Get a registered copy of DVDFab for encrypted dvd

Need to pay for it and register it with the company’

They make a Blu-ray rippper as well. It’s a Chinese company so if you aren’t comfortable with that then don’t install it

Or if the DVDs play in windows have them running full screen and run OBS to copy the whole screen to a file.
It's like leaving the VHS to record a TV programm so you can't be doing anything else on the PC, or at least on the same screen, until it's done.... hey being cheap is an artform ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

VLC can usually do it, I ripped most of my DVD with VLC for my Jellyfin server so I don't have to worry about DVD players around the house anymore, there are some that will fight you, I found MakeMKV to copy it and it makes an ISO and it often then allows VLC to copy it, but you got to be careful with VLC, some videos the audio defaults to a different language, so you sometimes have to play with the audio tracks.

Or as mentioned, OBS and record it, sometimes thats the only way. could also just make an ISO with MakeMKV (Its free) and show your wife how to mount it and it'll play like a normal DVD.
