Question How can I fix a frequent disconnection issue?

My brother's laptop crashes our modem whenever he connects to our Wifi, but only when his laptop has been disconnected from said Wifi for a decently long time (ranging from a few hours to over half a day). This happens consistently, and will sometimes crash the modem multiple times in a row. We're all getting tired of the fact that if he wants to do any schoolwork on his laptop, we all have to go without Internet for up to 15 minutes first. Any help would be appreciated.

Backup his data. Reformat and install clean. If that doesn’t fix it he needs a new computer

What would the issue be that requires a full reformat? There isn't anything else I can test for before that?

Run the networking troubleshooter. Start that on his pc

Make sure WIFI router's firmware is up to date, and u may attempt to update PC's WIFI driver. After that, re-install OS.

We haven't done any formatting or re-installing, yet (my brother is somewhat opposed to the idea), but we do have one new development. It seems to be caused by a FitBit app on his laptop doing something on the network. We aren't sure what, or why. Has anyone heard of this before?

As it turns out, he had a program that would reset the modem at certain times each day if he was online at those times. This issue has been resolved.
