My old laptop kicked the bucket. I want to use the 250gb Hard drive it came with on my PC. The bios detects it, but when i try to turn on my pc with it in it dosent boot. The 250gb HD has windows 7 starter downloaded and it has been corrupted. anyone know how i can format it?

The laptop broke due to it being dropped while moving. Since the HDD is readable by the bios it can still be used right? I just want to use this 250gb drive as a bit of extra storage.

will check back after work thanks :)

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, 3Angle!

Unfortunately, if the laptop where the HDD was built-in failed due to the drop, it's highly likely that the hard drive is also severely damaged. Mechanical hard drives are one of the most sensitive hardware components in the computer. Regardless of your PC's BIOS detecting it, I'd definitely not trust any data with it, especially if it affects the booting process like that.
I'd advise you to try using a SATA-to-USB cable or a docking station to plug the HDD externally and format it from Disk Management then.

Keep me posted if you have more questions! Good luck!
