Question How can i get digital audio from my motherboard so that my receiver makes the conversion to analog?

Hi! I currently own an MSI H370M motherboard and would like to get digital audio from it, so my sony AV receiver converts it to analog. The problem is this mobo doesnt have an optical port. So to try to solve this I bought a toslink optical to 3.5mm adapter and managed to connect the motherboard to the receiver´s optical input. Now i´m getting no sound at all... Already checked that my outputs were correctly set. Am I missing something obvious? Or maybe trying to pull something that is simply not possible with my current hardware?

My AV receiver:

Are you using a graphics card or onboard video? In either case, you would use the HDMI output and an audio stripper to create a toslink output. Get something like this -- https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Extractor-Optical-Toslink-Converter/dp/B00KBHX072

I´m using an Nvidia 1660ti
My HDMI output is being used for my monitor, so should I use the motherboard´s output for the audio stripper?

Just put the audio extractor in between the PC and the monitor.

I suspect your optical/3.5mm thingy is not a converter at all, but why bother doing that if you already have digital output from HDMI as ^he says. U are aware digital output doesn't have to be optical right.
