I am working on a Dell laptop that can't boot, the dell diagnostics shows there is a problem with the 512GB nvme ssd and battery. To get the data off the drive, I connected a usb with ubuntu live then a usb with windows to go but the files are showing as 80TB while in fact the size is around 250GB. I ran check disk from the properties- tools of the drive, but it hasn't found errors. In Explorer and Disk Management, the disk size is normal. The data is accessible but because the size is that huge i can't put it on any external disk. What do you think the problem is, and what do you suggest?

can you boot the dell off a USB?

boot from installer
on screen after languages, choose repair this pc, not install.
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose command prompt
type notepad and press enter
in notepad, select file>open
Use file explorer to copy any files you need to save to USB or hdd

See if windows thinks the files are that big as I have seen small drives report as massively big if their controller is messed up.
