[SOLVED] how can i get sound from a monitor without in built speakers

hey, so recently I bought a cheap monitor (Acer K222HQL) so i could play my consoles next to my laptop as well as use the monitor as a 2nd screen. it works fine as the latter but from outside my knowledge the monitor has no internal speakers, so i cant use it independently from my laptop otherwise i have no sound.
the monitor itself has 1 hdmi port, 1 vga and 1 dvi-d. the hdmi port is the only one i use to me plugged into my consoles.
is there any way to get sound from the monitor? My initial idea was to buy a hdmi splitter so i can connect the console to both the monitor and my laptop. but im unsure if this works. i would really appreciate any advice!

So you can get signal and audio split out and plug speakers into it.
There are many "hdmi audio splitter"'s available. I don't know what ones are good or bad, but there are a lot to choose from.
